What to Expect
If you are joining the CORE Project (Required)
- Initial Visit: Your first evaluation involves 3-5 visits to Western University
- Assessments and Tests: Expect to complete cognitive tests, a neurological exam, questionnaires about your memory and feelings, and a physical motor exam (brief walking assessments)
- You are required to have a study partner who knows you well enough to answer a few questionnaires on your behalf. They do not have to accompany you on any of the visits, nor do they have to visit us in person
- Brain Scans and Blood Samples: There will be an MRI scan and a blood draw
- Optional Home Study: We will discuss your willingness to enroll in our SuperAging at Home study (Project 1)
- Optional Brain Donation: We will discuss the possibility of donating your brain for research
- Assessments and Tests: Expect to complete cognitive tests, a neurological exam, questionnaires about your memory and feelings, and a physical motor exam (brief walking assessments)
- Biennial Visits: This is a longitudinal study, so we will see you again every two years for most of the procedures you will experience in your initial visit
If you are joining Project 1
- Completely Remote: You will complete this additional study from the comfort of your home. There is no need for in-person visits
- Sensor Kit: We will mail you wearable sensors to track your daily activities, including sleep. You will be provided with a return mailer to send the kit back to us once you have completed the study
- Daily Routine: You will wear these sensors for 14 days while going about your day
- Virtual Check-Ins: We will connect with you via Zoom or by phone for a baseline orientation, two check-ins, and a final debrief
